Gemotions

The cold wind whipped around Elias as he stood on the cliff edge. The ocean roared below, a sound that usually calmed him. Now, it only seemed to echo the turmoil inside. He’d dedicated years to his invention. Someone else had already patented it.

He clenched his fists, the muscles in his forearms bunching. He wanted to scream. He wanted to push something away, to expel the bitter feeling. He took a deep breath of sea air, the taste of salt doing nothing to alleviate the despair.

He looked out at the horizon, the endless expanse of water mirroring the vastness of his defeat. He felt a strange sort of heaviness, a lack of purpose.

He turned from the edge, his shoulders slumped. The walk back to his car would be long.
