Gemotions

Amelia sat at her desk, the glow of the laptop screen reflecting in her wide, unblinking eyes. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard, unable to type. The email, the one that had shattered her world, remained open. She took a shuddering breath.

She stared at the words, each one a betrayal: “...an error….” The scholarship, the only thing that allowed her to live and study, was gone. Her vision swam, the familiar room starting to feel alien. She ran a hand across her forehead, pushing back the strands of hair that clung to her damp skin.

She felt a wave of nausea, a sudden and overwhelming need to escape. She pushed herself away from the desk, her legs unsteady.
