The music in the small apartment suddenly felt too loud. Maya flicked the volume down on the speaker. Her party was supposed to be a low-key gathering, a simple celebration with close friends. But now, she was chewing on her lip, a habit she'd long tried to break. She hadn’t spoken to Chloe in three weeks, following a disagreement. Chloe's birthday was on the same day. Maya grabbed a bottle of water, her hand shaking as she opened it. The bubbly feeling that was supposed to come with the water, was not the feeling she was currently experiencing. She wished the water could wash away this uncomfortable feeling.
