He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn't realized he still employed. Liam shifted from foot to foot, the cold tile floor of the museum doing nothing to soothe the heat that had flared up in his cheeks. He’d seen her across the crowded exhibit hall, laughing with a tour group. He'd approached, heart hammering.

“Chloe?” he'd asked, trying to sound casual, but the words came out rushed. She'd turned, a blank, polite look on her face. Her brow furrowed slightly, and a faint frown touched her lips.

"I'm sorry, do I know you?" she inquired. Liam felt the ground shift under him. He stumbled over his explanation, each word a clumsy attempt to bridge the gap of forgotten years. His fingers fidgeted with the strap of his messenger bag. The bright lights of the museum suddenly felt oppressive.
