Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Claire perched on the edge of the uncomfortable wooden chair, her fingers tracing the outline of the envelope. The letter, found tucked away in a box of old photographs, was addressed to her estranged daughter.

Her breathing was shallow. She couldn't understand why the past was so stubborn, why it insisted on returning to haunt her. She was on edge.

She read the words, a desperate attempt to explain her actions, to bridge the chasm that had formed between them. Her vision blurred, and the words swam before her eyes. The space between them, the physical and emotional distance, suddenly felt unbearable.
