He felt his neck muscles coil. The lights in the elevator flickered once, twice, and then remained stubbornly on. "Wonderful," David muttered under his breath, clenching his jaw. Across from him, Sarah was looking at her phone. He hated waiting. He hated being stuck.

He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture more a frustrated tug. The air was getting heavy. He loosened his tie, the knot suddenly feeling constricting.

"Everything alright?" Sarah asked, glancing up.

He gave a tight smile. "Just peachy." He wanted to pace, but the confined space was not conducive to it. He could feel his pulse in his temples, a relentless hammering. He needed to get out.

The thought of the presentation he had to deliver tomorrow added another layer of pressure. He silently cursed the maintenance crew.
