Gemotions

The eviction notice was a thin, cold blade in Sarah’s hand. She felt the sudden urge to shred it, to tear it into a thousand tiny pieces. Instead, she slowly folded it, carefully, almost meticulously. Her fingers, usually nimble and quick, moved with exaggerated slowness.

Her vision swam. The familiar scent of lavender from the potpourri on the shelf suddenly made her head spin. She felt a need to sit, to just…stop. She sank onto the sofa, its cushions offering no comfort.

"Well, this is just great," she muttered, the words barely a whisper. The silence that followed was deafening, filled with unspoken anxieties.
