The sunlight sliced through the dusty windows of the spare bedroom, illuminating motes of dust dancing in the air. Amelia pressed her lips together, her jaw tight. She was supposed to be relaxing, but the weight of her responsibilities felt like an actual physical burden. She wasn't really sure why she was even here; her mother had been gone for so long. She knelt beside a trunk, its leather cracked and worn. Inside, beneath a pile of old scarves, she discovered a letter. The paper was thin and brittle, the ink faded, a draft of a letter of resignation from her mother's university position. A wave of dizziness washed over her.
