Gemotions

The dog, usually boisterous and eager for a walk, whined at the back door, its tail tucked low. It was the noise that made her stop everything. The clattering and the thud sent a shiver down her spine. The sun had just begun to set, and the shadows were long and ominous.

She felt a wave of cold wash over her. Her hands felt clammy. She went outside, her arms wrapped around herself. The massive oak, a local landmark, was now blocking Mrs. Rodriguez’s driveway. It was going to be a nightmare.

Her own relief at her property being unscathed quickly morphed into dread at the inevitable fallout.
