The photograph of the house, bathed in the golden light of sunset, felt like a physical blow. Elena gasped, her breath catching in her throat. The familiarity, the years of memories embedded within those walls, threatened to overwhelm her. She sat frozen, unable to look away, her fingers tracing the outline of the roof on the screen.

She tried to rationalize it. Houses changed hands, lives evolved. But the tightness in her chest, the prickling sensation on her skin, betrayed her attempts at logic.
