The phone felt heavy in Sarah's hand, its cold plastic a stark contrast to the sweat beading on her forehead. She paced the length of her tiny apartment, the hardwood floor groaning under her weight. The news, delivered by a distant cousin during a phone call, had been a bombshell. A half-brother she never knew existed.

She felt like a tightly wound spring, ready to snap. She replayed the conversation in her head, the cousin's words echoing in her ears. "He's looking for you… wants to meet." The thought of meeting this stranger, this person who shared her blood, filled her with a nervous energy she couldn't quell. Her breath hitched. The walls of her apartment seemed to close in on her. She felt like she couldn’t breathe.

Sarah slammed the phone back onto its cradle. She needed a drink. She needed to sit down, maybe. But, she needed to know everything.
