The hospital waiting room was filled with a low hum of hushed conversations and the sterile smell of disinfectant, but Liam heard none of it. He sat rigidly in a plastic chair, his gaze fixed on the floor tiles. The doctor's words still echoed in his ears: "There's something you need to know… about your father." A half-sister.

Liam's throat constricted, and he felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead. The air felt thick, heavy, hard to draw. He twisted his hands in his lap. He needed air. He needed to get out. But he couldn't leave.
