Sweat beaded on Maya’s forehead, despite the cool air conditioning. She shifted from foot to foot outside the community center, peeking through the glass doors. Her breath hitched. Inside, her meticulously crafted sculptures, the ones she poured her soul into, were illuminated under harsh spotlights.

A shiver ran down her spine. Each piece felt exposed, vulnerable.

She found herself wishing she hadn't come, that she’d stayed in the safety of her studio, but the community center had sent her an invitation, and it had been so enthusiastic!

She crossed the threshold, forcing a smile that felt brittle. The exhibition's organizer, a man with a booming laugh, clapped her on the back. "Maya! Perfect timing! What do you think?"
