The chipped mug warmed Amelia’s hands as she stared out her kitchen window. Sunlight glinted off the perfectly manicured lawn next door, a stark contrast to her own scraggly patch. She swallowed hard, the lump in her throat making it difficult to breathe. Mr. Henderson, with his crisp linen shirts and silent, polished car, had always seemed a little… distant. Now, seeing the delivery truck unloading cases of imported champagne, Amelia felt her stomach churn. Her own grocery bill had been a struggle this month.

A tremor ran through her as she pictured her own cluttered life: bills piled on the counter, a leaky faucet, and the persistent hum of the old refrigerator. She squeezed the mug tighter, the porcelain digging into her skin.

"Just breathe," she muttered, her voice barely a whisper. Her gaze flickered over to the gleaming pool and the private putting green. The disparity was a physical weight pressing down on her.
