He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, leaving a trail of static. The fluorescent lights of the hospital corridor hummed, a constant, irritating buzz that seemed to vibrate in his teeth. His jaw was clenched so hard he thought his molars might shatter. He'd been pacing for an hour, the polished linoleum a blur beneath his worn shoes.

A woman with fiery red hair exited a consultation room, her expression unreadable. He’d seen her earlier, flipping through magazines in the waiting area, a faint tremor in her hands.

She approached him, a hesitant question in her eyes. “Excuse me,” she began, her voice barely a whisper. “Are you… are you here for the same thing?”

He swallowed, the movement stiff. "I think so. The results... They said it was… rare.”

"The rarest," she confirmed, and a strange wave of relief washed over her face.
