The air in the nursery seemed to thicken, making it difficult for Brian to breathe. He stared at the drawing, the crude depiction of his old imaginary friend. The familiar feeling of dread, a cold grip around his chest, tightened its hold. His little sister, Emily, chattered beside him, completely oblivious to what it meant.

He had to get her out of here. He had to keep her safe. He grabbed her hand, the small fingers instantly bringing a sense of protection. He needed to escape. Now. He yanked her towards the door, ignoring her confused cries, and pushed through the doorway.
