He sat in the library, surrounded by the comforting scent of old paper and leather, but the familiar environment offered no solace. He had meticulously crafted his application, poured over essays, and poured his hopes into it, and now his chance to attend his dream school was in jeopardy. The rejection letter burned a hole in his pocket.

He tried to focus on his textbook, but the words blurred, the sentences swam. His breathing became shallow, his chest tight. He gripped the edge of the table, knuckles white. The murmur of other students studying around him felt like a distant, irrelevant noise.

He closed his eyes and saw the faces of his grandparents, their sacrifices, their unwavering belief in him. The weight of their expectations threatened to crush him. He suddenly stood up and stumbled out of the library, the quiet of the space immediately replaced with the cacophony of the world.
