Gemotions

The screen seemed to mock her. The words, "We regret to inform you…" danced before her eyes. The email was a death knell to her hopes, her ambitions, her future. She slumped back in her chair, the sudden, terrible lightness in her chest making her dizzy.

The room around her tilted. She clutched the desk, her knuckles white. She couldn’t seem to draw a complete breath. It felt as if a heavy weight was crushing her, stealing the air from her lungs.

She imagined the conversations to come, the pitying looks, the unspoken judgments. Her carefully constructed future, the bright future she had planned, was now a shattered mosaic. She closed her eyes, and the world went dark.
