Gemotions

The pounding of the fence posts echoed in Sarah's skull, a rhythmic drumming that threatened to crack her head open. She stood behind the window, her knuckles white as she gripped the windowsill.

She could barely swallow. The proposed fence line bisected her garden, taking the space where her son had learned to ride his bike. She imagined his laughter, now a distant echo.

Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage. She couldn't breathe. Everything seemed to shrink, closing in. Her gaze darted from the worker's face to the newly erected posts.
