The sunlight streaming through the window seemed harsh, unforgiving. Emily, perched on the edge of the bed, felt the blood drain from her face. Her mother's handwriting, bold and confident, scrawled across the manila envelope. "Emily – Elementary School – All Assignments."

A prickling sensation crawled over her skin. She couldn’t bring herself to open it. It was like staring into a mirror she didn’t want to see, reflecting back all the vulnerabilities of her younger self. Each failure, each insecurity, now immortalized in ink.

Her hands clenched into fists. She felt trapped. The walls seemed to be closing in.

“This can’t be real,” she breathed, her voice a shaky plea.
