Gemotions

The coach’s words echoed in Leo’s head, each syllable a hammer blow. He hadn't made the cut. He stood frozen, the blood draining from his face. His arms felt heavy, leaden. He couldn't feel his feet.

He wanted to scream, to shatter the glass doors of the gymnasium. But he remained still. He felt a desperate urge to flee, to escape this scene. He bit down on his lip until he tasted blood, a small attempt to distract himself from the rising panic.

He avoided the eyes of his friends, the congratulations, the well wishes. All he wanted was to be alone. He took a few shaky breaths and walked out into the crisp, cool air. Each step was an effort.
