He stared at the words, the screen glowing in the dark room. The critic had savaged his ambitious vegan tasting menu, comparing it to "a culinary experiment gone wrong". He felt a cold sweat prickle his skin.

He felt the need to flee, to be anywhere else. He buried his face in his hands, attempting to block out the harsh realities. He knew that the restaurant’s survival hung by a thread. The weight of his responsibilities was crushing.

A wave of nausea hit him. He swallowed hard, trying to regain control. The thought of letting down his investors was almost unbearable.
