Gemotions

The homeowner had promised this attic cleanup would be a fun adventure. Now, as he stared at the collection of antique medical instruments laid out on a dusty table, he was starting to question the wisdom of that choice. Scalpels, probes, and other items were arranged as if ready for work, and the sight turned his stomach.

His breath grew shallow, catching in his throat. He felt dizzy, lightheaded. He wanted to flee, to be anywhere else, to forget this room and its contents. The air felt thin, difficult to breathe. He spun around. He had to leave. His muscles tightened. He almost tripped over himself in his rush to get to the doorway.

His heart was a trapped bird, fluttering madly against his ribs.
