The postmark was from a town she'd never heard of. The card itself, a cartoon cat with a bow tie, seemed mocking. David felt a chill crawl up his spine, and he involuntarily took a step back. The air around him felt heavy and thick.

He stared at the card. It read: "Have a purr-fect day!" The exclamation mark seemed to taunt him, mocking his mounting unease.

He dropped the card, then immediately picked it up, as if he needed to confirm its existence. He went to the window to look outside, the street appearing somehow different. He felt a powerful, unwelcome urge to flee.
