The glow of the convenience store sign illuminated Amelia’s face, casting dancing shadows that played on her heightened emotions. She’d spotted the wallet nestled beside a discarded lottery ticket. Inside, a staggering amount of currency. Her hands felt clammy, slick with sweat.

She backed away from the entrance, her eyes darting around at every approaching car, every pedestrian. The thought of being seen, of being accused, sent a chill through her. A sob threatened to escape, choking her.
