The streetlights cast elongated shadows as John walked, his steps hurried and uneven. He clutched the wallet close, feeling its weight like a physical burden. He’d discovered it near the bus stop, discarded like a piece of refuse.

His breath hitched in his throat as a police car cruised past, its headlights briefly illuminating his face. He ducked behind a parked car, heart pounding wildly. Every passing vehicle, every distant siren, sent a jolt of anxiety through him.

He felt a growing sense of panic, a desperate urge to escape the suffocating feeling that surrounded him. He wanted to be invisible, to disappear into the night. He yearned for the normalcy he had lost.
