He’d almost missed the email. It had landed in his spam folder, ironically, next to a message about male enhancement. He should have deleted it immediately, but something—a morbid curiosity perhaps—compelled him to open it.

The subject line, “Ridgeview High 25th Reunion”, was like a physical blow. James felt the air leave his lungs. He quickly closed the email but the damage was done. Images of high school hallways, the cafeteria, the football field, all the places he longed to forget, suddenly flooded his mind.

He went to the bathroom and splashed cold water on his face. The reflection staring back at him looked older, weary, and profoundly unsettled.
