Gemotions

The telephone rang, shattering the quiet of the evening. It was her old friend, Sarah. “Have you seen the invitation?” Sarah asked. “I’m thinking of skipping it.” The thought alone made Lisa's stomach churn.

As she listened to Sarah, she stared out the window. She had worked so hard to leave her high school self behind. Now, she was being asked to revisit it. The idea of being forced to socialize, make small talk and endure the inevitable comparisons with old classmates, made her feel lightheaded.

“I don’t know,” she mumbled into the phone. “I just… I don’t know.”
