The café buzzed with activity, the air thick with the aroma of coffee and… *her* biscotti. Amelia had seen the sign outside: "Bianca's Biscotti – A Taste of Italy!" Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic rhythm against the calm atmosphere.

She felt a wave of heat surge through her, causing her to flush from her neck to her cheeks. She was frozen in place. She felt the urge to run, to scream, but the words were trapped in her throat. Her fists clenched.

She watched the customers, their smiles as they took a bite of her creation, the realization hitting her again and again. She wanted to scream out, but instead, she took a shaky breath and felt her legs begin to carry her away, away from the scene of her stolen life.
