The knot in Liam's stomach tightened as he unlocked the dorm room door. He saw Amelia sitting at his desk, head bent over, a faint pink blush creeping up her neck. His journal, the one he hid under the floorboards, lay open. He felt his hands begin to tremble.

“Hey,” he managed, his voice a strained whisper. Amelia jumped, a look of utter horror flashing across her face before she tried to mask it with a smile.

“Oh, hi Liam! Just… uh… looking for my charger. Did you see it?” He couldn't speak. He focused on keeping his breathing steady, the air suddenly feeling thin and hard to pull in.
