Her hands, usually steady, trembled as she clicked. Inside, the percentages and regional breakdowns blurred. Then, a small, unassuming line: “Possible Close Family Matches.” Her breath hitched. A knot formed in her stomach, a cold, hard stone.

She scrolled, her eyes darting across names she didn’t recognize. Messages, requests to connect. Her vision swam. Grabbing her phone, she dialed her mother’s number.
