He stared at the cease and desist letter, the stark black text swimming before his eyes. It felt like the world had tilted on its axis, leaving him teetering on the edge of a chasm. He hadn't expected this. He thought he'd been so clever, so meticulous. He'd poured his heart and soul into his project, neglecting his friends, his family, even his health. Now, it was all for naught.

His fingers, suddenly clumsy and numb, fumbled with the phone. He needed to talk to someone, anyone. The dial tone, a high-pitched whine, grated on his nerves. He almost dropped the phone several times before finally managing to punch in his lawyer’s number. He felt like his lungs were refusing to fill with air. Each breath was a struggle.

His lawyer's voice, calm and reassuring on the other end, did nothing to settle his racing pulse. Every sentence, every piece of legal jargon, felt like another nail in the coffin of his dreams.
