The afternoon sun, warm just moments ago, suddenly felt cold on her skin. She watched the Golden Retriever, playful as always, bound towards the trampoline. But this time, it was different. This time, the dog was sniffing suspiciously in the direction of the back door. She felt her chest tighten.

She backed away slowly, her eyes fixed on the animal. The world seemed to shrink, focusing only on the threat.
