"No," I whispered, the word a mere thread of sound. The pictures mocked me, the smiles on their faces, the closeness between my uncle and the woman who was most definitely not his wife. The whole thing made my blood run cold. I felt a tightening in my chest, a sensation that I was losing my bearings.

I turned quickly, wanting to flee. The air around me felt thick, oppressive, like a physical weight. My legs felt like lead. The room began to spin. Every corner seemed to hold a lurking threat.
