“Did you see?” Mark stammered, his voice barely a whisper. “Ms. Rodriguez follows me on Snapchat.” The words felt like a confession.

His skin prickled. He felt suddenly exposed, as if the walls of his room had become transparent. He ran his hand through his hair, a nervous gesture. He couldn't shake the unsettling feeling of being observed.

The thought of her seeing his silly videos, his throwaway comments, his late-night musings on anything and everything, filled him with a potent discomfort. He just wanted to disappear.
