Liam sat on the park bench, the autumn wind whipping the letter from his trembling fingers. He scrambled to retrieve it. It was addressed to his childhood friend, the one he had betrayed. The one who had disappeared years ago. It was a plea for forgiveness.

His stomach churned. He felt as if someone was watching him. He scanned the familiar handwriting. The words hung in the air, heavy and unforgiving.

He wanted to run. He wanted to forget. The park, once a place of joy, had become a prison. His heart beat an erratic rhythm against his ribs.
