Gemotions

The metallic scent of the elevator, usually faint, now seemed overpowering. David’s stomach churned. The sudden silence, devoid of the usual mechanical hum, was more unsettling than the noise. His vision felt hazy.

"Okay," Emily said, her voice strained. "Let's not panic."

Easier said than done. David’s hands trembled so violently he had to shove them into his pockets. He bit the inside of his cheek to stop his jaw from wobbling. Every imagined scenario played on repeat in his mind: falling, fire, the slow, agonizing wait for rescue.

He felt a pressure building behind his eyes. He squeezed them shut, trying to concentrate on something, anything, other than the stifling reality. The thought of being buried alive sent another wave of unease washing over him.
