It had been a mistake, a terrible, terrible mistake. He reread the notice. The words seemed to jump off the page, each letter a sharp stab. His throat constricted as tears threatened to spill. He quickly looked away, ashamed.

He felt a deep tremor in his legs. The weight of the situation threatened to crush him. He stumbled over to a chair and sat heavily. He felt lightheaded, as if the room was spinning.
