He stared, his eyes wide, at the online property listing. The familiar street number, 22 Maple Avenue, seemed to leap out at him. His breath caught in his throat. This wasn't happening. It couldn't be.

The pictures blurred before his eyes. The manicured lawn, the freshly painted shutters, the smiling faces of the supposed new owners… all of it seemed sinister, unreal. He rubbed his eyes, trying to clear his vision, but the images remained.

He felt a prickling sensation on his skin, as if he were being watched. He pushed himself away from the computer, chair legs scraping across the floor. He needed to get out of the house, away from this digital intrusion.
