The words on the screen blurred, a mocking reflection of her own life. She felt a cold dread, and found herself unable to remain still. She paced the living room, her steps quick and erratic, her heart hammering against her ribs. She couldn’t seem to catch her breath.

He’d written her as the villain, the one who would destroy him. Her palms were clammy. This was a nightmare. This was an invasion. She felt the sudden urge to run, to disappear, to outrun the narrative he'd crafted. She needed to get away, and fast.
