"Dinner's ready!" his mom called from the kitchen. John pushed himself off the couch and walked in, feeling his stomach grumble with hunger. His first home-cooked meal in ages.

He sat at the table, across from his sister, who had rolled her eyes upon his arrival earlier. The food looked delicious. The comfort of the table, the familiar chatter, the clinking of forks against plates – all of it was a soothing balm.

He ate slowly, savoring each bite, the flavors of home a perfect culmination to the end of a long day. He found himself looking at his family with a newfound appreciation. He hadn't realized how much he'd missed this.
