He stared at the empty chair. Dr. Albright, his supervisor, the man who had taught him everything, had just...left. No farewell, just a closed office and a handwritten note taped to the door. "Exploring the world, young one. Carry on. – Albright." He swallowed, a lump forming in his throat.

His fingers instinctively traced the rim of the coffee cup he had shared with Dr. Albright daily. The man was a surgeon, but also a philosopher. He remembered the countless hours spent discussing life, death, and the ethical gray areas in between.

The air in the sterile office seemed to hum with the absence of his presence. He sat up straighter, a surge of adrenaline coursing through him. He wouldn't fail Dr. Albright. He wouldn't let him down. He picked up his scalpel, his hand steady and sure. He'd carry on the good work.
