“I still can’t believe they chose me, not you.” The words hung heavy in the air, a source of awkwardness.

Across the table, Mark smiled, his eyes holding a gentle kindness. “Hey, it’s a good opportunity. Be good at it.”

The words were simple, yet they held a depth of understanding that surprised Leo. A warmth spread through his chest, a feeling of security. He knew that even though he hadn't got the job, his friendship with Mark was as strong as ever.

Mark nodded, then brought up the topic again, after a moment of silence. “So, are we still on for the game on Saturday?”
