She found the phone tucked under the sofa cushion, half-buried and forgotten. It vibrated silently, displaying an unknown number. Her stomach lurched, a cold knot forming. The day had been particularly difficult. The leaky faucet, the burnt dinner, the endless demands of work. He arrived home, greeted her with a warm embrace and asked about her day.
