"Seriously?" Mark muttered, staring at the empty patch of gravel where his beat-up pickup truck usually resided. Today of all days. He’d meticulously prepped for a family outing to the lake, envisioning the kids' delighted faces when they hit the water. Now, he was stranded. Frustration began to bubble, but then he noticed a small card stuck to his mailbox. It was from the church, offering free rides to anyone who needed them.

He called the number, feeling a flicker of something akin to peace bloom in his chest as the volunteer on the other end responded with immediate willingness. As he waited, he noticed the morning sun finally broke through the clouds, painting the sky with a golden hue. When the church van arrived, a friendly woman offered him a bottle of water and a comforting smile. He settled in, allowing a sense of lightness to wash over him as they drove towards the lake.
