Gemotions

The sheer volume of it was astonishing. Sarah had anticipated a few things, a stray report card or two, but not this. Every single assignment from first grade onward. Her heart felt light, as if freed of a weight. She looked at the neatly organized folders, a sense of wonder growing inside her.

She touched a particularly messy painting, remembering the joy of its creation. A slow smile stretched her lips. She could almost hear her mother’s voice, full of encouragement, urging her to try.

Her fingers traced the familiar lines of her mother's handwriting on a book report, and a strange calm came over her. Sarah closed her eyes. It was a good feeling, an incredible feeling. The world seemed a bit brighter, more welcoming.
