The noticeboard was a blurry mess of white and black, the names swimming before her eyes. Amelia squinted, her breath hitching in her chest. She hadn’t made the A-team. A wave of disappointment washed over her, a cold tide that threatened to pull her under. Then, a hand squeezed her shoulder. It was Coach Miller. "You've got a lot of potential, Amelia," he said, his voice softer than usual. "You're on the B-team, and that’s a great starting point.” Amelia nodded, feeling the warmth spread through her limbs as he spoke, chasing away the chill. She knew the B-team practice fields were always less crowded. She could really focus there.
