He stared out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The disappointment of not making the swim team was a heavy weight pressing down on his shoulders. He had been sure this year was his year. The phone rang. It was his grandma, asking him to come over and help her with some gardening. As he worked beside her, weeding the flower beds, the scent of damp earth and blooming roses filled his senses. The sun peeked through the clouds. He inhaled deeply and started to hum a tune.
