The scent of roasting coffee filled the air, a familiar comfort. David’s usually meticulous handwriting was scrawled across a notepad on the kitchen table, covered in Cyrillic characters. He was trying to order her favorite pastry in Russian. A giggle bubbled up from Amelia, escaping before she could stop it. A feeling, a deep and encompassing sort of… ease, settled over her. She knew the struggle he went through to get anything he wanted - a struggle he had been hiding. She wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, resting her cheek against his back.
