The house had a history, a past. Jake had always known there were secrets to be found. He had been digging in the basement, clearing out years of accumulated junk, when he discovered the hidden room.

It was a small, windowless space. But it held a treasure. Old comic books, first editions, pristine and untouched. He had dreamed of the days to read them.

He sat on the floor, flipping through the pages. He felt a childlike delight, a joy that ran deep. This house was a gift, a promise. He couldn't stop grinning.
